Big oaks, golf-course and lake lots
The oaks and pecans in Weston Lakes are big, old and close to the house. Good trimming keeps them that way: deadwood out, roofs clear, nothing stripped.

Most trimming in Weston Lakes is on mature trees: live oaks, water oaks, pecans and pines that were here before the houses, many of them on golf-course, lake and river lots. Limbs grow over roofs and pools, deadwood builds up in the crown, and the heaviest pecan limbs get longer every year.
Tree King works in Weston Lakes every week from our base a few miles away in Pattison. We make proper pruning cuts, never top a tree, and never use climbing spikes on a tree that is staying.

Dead, broken, hanging and rubbing limbs out of mature oaks and pecans.
Limbs lifted off roofs, gutters, pool decks and drives.
Long, heavy limbs shortened to a strong side branch before they fail.
Young oaks shaped early, old oaks cleaned and balanced.
Mature live oaks. We take out dead and hanging wood, clear the roof and thin only where limbs cross or crowd. A live oak should not be stripped out in the middle, which is called lion-tailing and leaves the ends heavy and prone to break.
Pecans. Pecan wood is brittle and the limbs grow long. Shortening the heaviest ones back to a strong side branch is the best protection against the sudden limb drop pecans are known for.
Pines. Dead lower limbs come off cleanly at the collar. Pines are not topped or thinned hard; if a pine is leaning toward the house we look at it with you and tell you honestly whether it should stay.
Over the course and the water. Limbs over a fairway, cart path or the lake are cut in pieces and lowered on ropes, so nothing lands on the course or in the water.
Timing. Oaks are best pruned from July through January, outside the February to June window when oak wilt spreads. Dead or dangerous limbs come off whenever they are found, and fresh oak cuts get sealed. More in our guide to the best time to trim oaks in Texas.
We trim throughout Weston Lakes, including golf-course, lake and river lots. We coordinate gate access, keep the street and cart paths clear, haul away every branch and rake up before we leave.
Trees on common areas or the course itself belong to the association or the club. If one of their limbs is over your roof, we can look at it with you and tell you what to report.
July through January. We avoid February through June when we can because that is when oak wilt spreads most easily, and we seal fresh cuts on oaks year round. Dead or hanging limbs come off whenever they are found.
Usually much less than people expect. We take out dead, broken and crossing wood, clear the roof and thin only where it is crowded. As a rule no more than about a quarter of the live canopy in one year.
Limbs from your own tree, yes, and we lower them on ropes so nothing lands on the course or in the lake. Trees that stand on the course or common areas belong to the club or the association.
