Arborist or tree trimmer?

A tree trimmer cuts what you point at. An arborist first works out what the tree needs: which limbs it will need in twenty years, why the leaves are yellow, whether that crack is a problem, and when it is safe to cut a live oak at all.

Most of the trees around Fulshear and Katy are builder-planted live oaks, three to ten years old. A wrong cut now shows for a century. A right one costs the same.

When to call an arborist, not just a crew

  • Your young live oak has two tops racing each other.
  • Leaves turned yellow with green veins, or a big limb died this summer.
  • Mushrooms or bark falling off at the base of the trunk.
  • Your HOA wants a tree removed or pruned and you want a second opinion first.
  • A big tree leans toward the house and you want to know before the next storm.

Frequently asked questions

What does an arborist do?

An arborist is a tree specialist: someone who knows how trees grow, get sick and fail, and cares for them so they live long and stay safe. Anyone can buy a chainsaw; an arborist decides what should be cut, and what should not.

Do I need an arborist to prune a young live oak?

You need someone who knows which limbs to keep. A young live oak is shaped once for the next hundred years: one main leader, well-spaced permanent limbs, no flush cuts, and no cuts at all from February to June because of oak wilt. Lucas prunes every young live oak himself.

How much does an arborist visit cost?

A tree health diagnostic is $60 right now (regular $100) with our 40% discount. Every on-site estimate is a flat $10 fuel fee, credited to the job when you book it.

Can you tell me if a tree is dangerous?

Yes. We look for decay, cracks, weak forks, root damage and lean, and tell you plainly whether the tree can stay, needs work or should come down. If it can be saved, we say so.

Will you sell me work my tree does not need?

No. That is our promise: we show you what we saw, then what it means, and only then what it costs. If the tree is fine, we tell you it is fine.
