Cross Creek West is the newer sister community to Cross Creek Ranch, on FM 359 at Jordan Road just north of downtown Fulshear. It covers more than 1,200 acres and is planned for over 3,000 homes, on lots from 45 feet up to 80 feet wide.

Nearly every tree here was planted within the last few years. Tree King is based a few miles up the road in Pattison, and young builder-planted live oaks are the work we do most.

The first three years after planting

Year one: water and leave it alone. A newly planted live oak needs steady water at the root ball, not the short daily cycles a lawn gets. Other than removing dead or broken twigs, it should not be pruned yet.

Year two: stakes off, mulch back. Stakes and straps should come off after the first year. Mulch belongs in a wide flat ring, pulled back from the trunk, not piled against the bark.

Year three: first structural pruning. Once the tree is growing well we choose one main leader, shorten the stems competing with it and start spacing the permanent limbs. The cuts are small and the tree barely notices.

If a tree is not growing. A new tree that has sat still for two summers is usually planted too deep, girdled by its own roots or drowning in heavy clay. We check the root flare and tell you whether it can be fixed or should be replaced while it may still be covered by the builder.

Where we work around Cross Creek West

We cover all of Cross Creek West, on both sides of the community as new sections open, along with Cross Creek Ranch to the south, Jordan Ranch, Tamarron West and the rest of the FM 359 corridor.

On a new street, most of the trees are the same age and need the same thing. Several neighbors booking together keeps the visit short and the price down.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work in Cross Creek West?

Yes. It is one of the closest new communities to our base in Pattison.

My tree was just planted. Should it be pruned now?

Not yet, apart from dead or broken branches. Give it a year or two to root in, then start light structural pruning.

My new tree looks sick. Is that the builder’s problem or mine?

Check your builder’s landscape warranty first, since many cover trees for the first year. We can look at the tree and tell you plainly what is wrong so you know what to ask for.
